New Programme Launch - Success through Succession (STS)

This innovative project, delivered by the Caledonian Family Business Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University in partnership with the University of Ulster and Dundalk Institute of Technology, is designed to help second and third generation family-owned businesses prepare for and move through the challenges of succession planning.

Supported by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA Programme, Scottish Enterprise and Cooperative Development Scotland, the Success through Succession project will operate within Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and the West of Scotland.

Offering a psychology focussed approach to help address succession issues, the project will offer participating family businesses:

  • In-house mentoring and support for succession planning from a network of experts
  • A programme of workshops to explore issues specific to succession planning in family owned businesses
  • An opportunity to network with other family businesses across the West of Scotland and in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland.

Who is Success through Succession aimed at?

Success through Succession is aimed at family business owners (and family members) who are committed to actively working towards a planned succession for their business within the next 10 years.

Participants must be prepared to give of their time to work with commitment with the Programme Team to articulate their plan for succession.

Why should I take part in Success through Succession?

Unfortunately some family business owners do not plan for succession and figures show that this lack of planning is one of the major reasons why family businesses fail to sustain or grow their business beyond the first generation of ownership.

What will Success through Succession offer participants?

Success through Succession will offer participants:

  • One to one mentoring and coaching opportunities with a range of family business experts
  • A series of workshops focused on exploring your family’s solution to your particular succession challenges
  • Networking opportunities with other family business owners across 3 regional areas (the West of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland)
  • Best practice visits

Is there any financial cost?

There is no financial cost to participants but you must be prepared to give your time and commitment.
